Being sceptic

Following on to the highspirited quotes from Glut it is noted that a few dissidents have identified potential dark sides of digitization like:

- our fracturing attention spans,

- the threats to personal privacy

- risk of creeping groupthink

Sven Birkerts: "We may even now be in the first stages of a process of social collectivization that will over time all but vanguish the ideal of the isolated individual." A distopian view that the information overload in and by digital media will make our shared cultural reference points dissolve into a rising tide of digital duft.

Do I agree? Yes about fragmentation - less time for any one thing - fracturing attention span -  but otherwise not quite -  have to read on..
